At Salisbury District Hospital, 1 in 10 babies are born too small, too sick or too soon and therefore need additional care. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (aka NICU or Special Care Baby Unit) provides this to over 300 babies every year.
These babies, who can weigh less than a bag of sugar and fit in the palm of your hand, need everything that modern technology can offer.
Donations to the Stars Appeal Little Lives fund help provide the Unit with state-of-the-art treatment and diagnostic equipment that helps staff deliver the best possible care to these fragile young lives. Donations also enable us to improve facilities for parents and families and allow nursing staff to receive the latest specialist training. The fund also supports projects that benefit newborn babies on the Hospital’s maternity wards.
During 2011 and 2012 the main focus of the Little Lives Fund is a major project to provide a family accommodation unit within the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Find out more about this project here.
“Young lives can be so fragile and need the very greatest levels of care. Donations to the Little Lives Fund help us to achieve this”
